Tinubu’s Reforms Boost Edo State Development Capacity

Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Governor of Edo State, attributed the strengthening of state governments' financial capacities to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms during a diaspora engagement in London, United Kingdom, themed “Shine Beyond Borders.” He noted that the removal of fuel subsidy and other reforms have improved state finances, allowing for timely salary payments and infrastructure projects. Okpebholo stated that the era of governors needing bailouts from Abuja is over, as states now have sufficient funds for salaries and development.

He cited specific projects in Edo State, including the Ramat Park Flyover in Benin City and the reconstruction of the Ekpoma-Auchi section of the Benin-Okene Highway. Additionally, he mentioned security enhancements such as the establishment of an Army Forward Operational Base and recruitment of Forest Guards.

Okpebholo called on Edo indigenes in the diaspora to contribute their expertise and resources to accelerate development in the state.
