Okpekpe 10km Road Race Set for May 30, 2026

The Okpekpe International 10km Road Race, scheduled for May 30, 2026, in Okpekpe, Edo State, is recognized as a World Athletics Gold Label event, marking it as a significant occasion in global athletics. Zak Amodu, the race director, expressed confidence in the preparations for a hitch-free event, which will be supported by Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and Tonobok Okowa, President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria.

The race will be broadcast live, ensuring millions of viewers worldwide can witness the competition. Notable athletes include Ethiopian teenager Lemi Teshom, ranked 11th fastest in the world, and Kenyan star Fridah Ndinda.

Defending men's champion Jame Musa and women's champion Ismael Sadjo will also compete, alongside Patience Daylop and Deborah Pam Badung, who aim for a historic hat trick. The event not only promotes athletics but also benefits the local community through infrastructure upgrades and inspiration for young athletes across Nigeria.
