EFCC Chairman Critiques Media on Corruption Reporting

On Thursday, Olukayode B. Ariwoola, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), addressed media practitioners in Abuja, urging them to uphold editorial integrity and responsibly report on issues related to financial crimes.

He criticized recent media reports that described the EFCC's actions as politically motivated, particularly in light of a case involving the arrest of a suspect linked to the alleged disappearance of 35 million naira intended for establishing a refinery. Ariwoola labeled such reports as premature and misleading, asserting that the EFCC operates independently of partisan politics.

He highlighted the agency's significant successes in combating corruption and called for balanced reporting that goes beyond sensationalism. Additionally, he identified the growing threat of terrorist financing and emphasized the need for regional collaboration to tackle these challenges.

Ariwoola's remarks were made during a goodwill message at the Voice Nigeria forum 2025, where he also acknowledged Nigeria's pivotal role in maintaining peace and stability in the West African region.
