Omolara Odediran Launches African Wedding Fair in Finland

Omolara Odediran, a fashion entrepreneur, launched the African Wedding Fair (AWFF) in Finland last winter, despite typical seasonal challenges. The event, which took place for the first time, attracted 350 attendees and generated significant media buzz.

Odediran, who moved to Finland a decade ago for further studies at Obafemi Awolowo University, aims to showcase African creativity and culture, particularly Nigerian wedding traditions, to a Nordic audience. She identified a gap in African representation in Finland, where the Nigerian population is approximately 5,000 out of 5.6 million.

The AWFF is part of a broader vision to build capacity among Nigerian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and provide access to technical knowledge and internship opportunities. The Finnish government has partnered with Odediran to incorporate the fair into its annual activities, with the next edition scheduled for May 30, 2026.

The event will include discussions on creative economies and showcase various aspects of African culture, including music and fashion.
