NGE 2026 Conference to Address Media and Democracy

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) will hold its annual conference on September 24-25, 2026, bringing together over 500 editors and distinguished guests to discuss significant national and global issues, particularly in light of the upcoming 2027 general election. The conference theme is “The Ballot, the Media and the Task of Keeping Democracy Alive,” with a sub-theme focusing on AI disinformation.

Cardinal John Onaiyekan, former Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, will deliver the keynote address on September 24 at 2pm. Other speakers include Dr. Peter Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, and Prof. Auwal Yadudu from Bayero University, who will discuss topics related to electoral justice and democratic stability.

The second day will feature presentations from Mazi Afam Osigwe, Prof. Chinyere Okunna, and Dr. Richard Okoye, among others. The conference aims to provide a platform for media leaders to explore challenges facing democracy and the media's role in promoting responsible journalism.
