Onanuga: Tinubu to Complete Eight-Year Tenure Like Buhari

Onanuga stated that Bola Ahmed Tinubu will fulfill an eight-year term as president, akin to Muhammadu Buhari's tenure. This remark was made in response to Atiku Abubakar's comments regarding power rotation between the north and south of Nigeria.

Abubakar, during an appearance on Arise TV, highlighted the imbalance in presidential power since Nigeria's return to democracy in 1999, noting that the south has held the presidency longer than the north. Onanuga criticized Abubakar's position as self-serving and contrary to established zoning arrangements.

He pointed out that Abubakar's arguments disrupt Nigeria's power rotation and disregarded the principles of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Onanuga also noted that Abubakar's multiple presidential candidacies in 2007, 2019, and 2023 reflect a disregard for the established zoning formula.

He emphasized that the shorter tenure of northern leaders, particularly due to the untimely death of former president Umaru Musa Yar'Adua in 2010, does not invalidate the power rotation arrangement.
