Ondo Doctors Demand Action on Unpaid Allowances

Doctors in Ondo State, represented by the Ondo State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), have issued an eight-day ultimatum to Governor Lucki Aiyedatiwa regarding unpaid allowances and deteriorating working conditions. The NMA, led by Chairman Dr.

Muyiwa, highlighted that the state government has failed to implement two key federal government circulars affecting salary and welfare since November 2025 and July 2025. They noted that many doctors have left the state due to the "japa syndrome," resulting in an increased workload for those remaining.

The NMA has made several attempts to engage with the government but received no positive response. They demand immediate implementation of salary adjustments and payment of arrears, as well as the urgent recruitment of health workers to alleviate the burden.

If their demands are not met by April 28, 2026, the NMA threatens to call an emergency congress to decide on further actions, including a potential strike, emphasizing the negative impact on the healthcare system and the public.
