Surge in Kidnappings Raises Alarm in Ondo State

Ondo State is experiencing a troubling increase in kidnappings, particularly in Akure North and Owo, where gunmen abducted a council secretary and two others in broad daylight. This incident, along with the murder of a local youth named Ben Daniel, has sparked violent protests and heightened public anxiety.

Residents are now wary of night movements, with many altering their daily routines and religious activities due to safety concerns. In response, security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, are intensifying operations.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has pledged to address the kidnapping crisis decisively, emphasizing that anyone found culpable will face the law. The Amotekun security network is also collaborating with local vigilante groups to enhance security in rural areas.

Despite these efforts, the frequency of attacks continues to raise concerns about the effectiveness of current strategies.
