Ondo State Partners with ADMINSERV for Electric Buses
The Ondo State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ADMINSERV, an information technology company, to introduce electric vehicle (EV) buses and charging infrastructure to reduce transportation costs. The initiative will start with five electric buses, each costing N180 million, totaling an initial investment of N900 million.
Charging stations will be installed at selected bus stops in Akure, with plans to extend to other local government areas. Olumuyiwa Ogunyemi, Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Transport, described the initiative as pioneering and aimed at addressing rising transportation costs while providing charging infrastructure for electric vehicle users.
The facilities will be accessible to all electric vehicle owners. The government is also developing compressed natural gas (CNG) infrastructure to improve access to alternative fuel options.
Peter Nnamani, Managing Director of ADMINSERV, stated that the project aims to lower monthly transportation costs from about N9,000 to between N5,000 and N6,000 per user and will create employment opportunities through the construction and management of charging facilities.
