Nigeria Launches Electric Bus Initiative for Civil Servants

The Federal Government of Nigeria inaugurated a committee tasked with rolling out electric buses for civil servants, aiming to provide affordable, safe, and accessible transportation. The committee, chaired by Dr Abdul Sule Garba, Permanent Secretary of the Service Welfare Office, is directed by Abel to operate with urgency and transparency.

The pilot phase will commence with 10 electric buses on selected routes, leading to the full deployment of 100 buses designated for Federal Civil Servants. The initiative is part of the Renewed Hope Transit Programme, with the buses launched and commissioned on August 26, 2026.

The committee's responsibilities include identifying suitable routes, developing a transparent enrolment and payment system, recommending affordable fares, and ensuring safety and accessibility for all, including persons with disabilities. Abel expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for supporting the initiative and acknowledged the collaboration of Otunba Oluwemimo Osanipin and his team at NADDC.

Additionally, Abel emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Federal Civil Service and traditional institutions for national development.
