Suspected Herders Attack Benue Community, One Injured

On Thursday, during the morning hours between 8 AM and 9 AM, suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded Ankpechi in the Oglewu Ward of Ohimini Local Government Area, Benue State. The attackers shot sporadically, resulting in one person being injured, who is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Local resident Elijah reported that the herders embarked on a looting spree, targeting provisions shops in the community. The chairman of Ohimini Local Government Area, Gabriel Adol, confirmed the incident, stating that armed men stormed the community and caused residents to flee for safety.

The attack has raised concerns about food security in the area, as residents are now afraid to buy food. Security personnel have been deployed to the area following the incident.

The latest attack comes shortly after another incident in Otukpo Nobbi, where two people were killed, highlighting ongoing violence linked to herder-community conflicts in the region.
