Armed Herders Attack Ondo Community in Benue State

On Tuesday morning, an attack by armed herders in the Ondo community of Otukpo Local Government Area, Benue State, resulted in the death of one person. The assailants reportedly stormed the community around 6 AM, shooting sporadically, which caused residents to flee to neighboring areas for safety.
Local youths organized themselves to prevent further havoc during the assault. Maxwell Ogiri, the chairman of Otukpo, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview, expressing concern over the loss of life.
He stated that the situation was critical and that security agencies were combing the forest to search for bandits. DSP Udem Edet, the spokesperson for the state command, had not yet provided a reaction to the incident.
This attack follows a previous incident on Sunday, where residents claimed that 16 people were killed in Otukpo, with eight confirmed dead and five others sustaining various degrees of injury.
