Opay MD and Directors Face Jail Over Court Order Breach

Gotring Dauda Wutrika, the Managing Director of Opay, along with five other directors, is at risk of imprisonment due to an alleged breach of a court order. Union Bank Nigeria PLC has initiated contempt proceedings against these executives in the Federal High Court in Lagos, seeking a possible jail term for the six individuals.

The application, marked FHC/L/CS/629/2025, includes directors Wang Dan, Wen Mingxuan, Duyao Huang, Simon Ozoemena, Chijiok Abass, and Rashidat Motunrayo as alleged contemnors. The application cites the Sheriff Civil Process Act and requires the executives to show cause why they should not be committed to custody for failing to comply with multiple court orders, including a preservation disclosure order issued in March and April 2025.

Union Bank claims that Opay has not restricted accounts linked to disputed transactions and has failed to disclose required account details, despite a court order to reverse fund transactions.
