Nigeria's Oil Output Boosted by Enhanced Pipeline Security

The General Manager of Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL), Dr. Akpo Mezeh, stated that Nigeria's increased crude oil production, surpassing its OPEC quota, is attributed to improved pipeline security measures.

During a stakeholder meeting in Port Harcourt, Mezeh emphasized the importance of collaboration among local communities, security agencies, and industry operators to combat crude theft and pipeline vandalism. He noted that the enhanced security along the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) has contributed to Nigeria's position as Africa's leading oil producer, achieving the highest combined production levels recorded in July 2025.

Despite these advancements, Mezeh expressed concern over recent attacks on the TNP, particularly an incident on June 15, 2026, in the Abua Odual Local Government Area of River State. He urged contractors to increase surveillance to deter vandalism and highlighted the need for urgent intervention from security agencies to prevent further attacks, which pose serious environmental risks and threaten the livelihoods of local communities.
