Opekete Foundation Launches 4th Scholarship for Women

The Opekete Foundation announced the opening of applications for the 4th Florence Bamidele Makanjuola Scholarship for Women, a key initiative designed to support academically promising young women from financially disadvantaged backgrounds across Nigeria. This scholarship cycle is the fourth since its inception, aimed at covering tuition for studies in nursing, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The foundation's mentorship program is structured around a single guiding theme, focusing on strategies to excel, pairing beneficiaries with experienced women across various professions. In 2021, the foundation reviewed 3,300 applications and awarded 47 scholarships across three cohorts.

The fourth cohort will incorporate lessons from previous cycles to enhance financial need verification and expand the merit-based screening process. The scholarship honors the late Florence Bamidele Makanjuola, a nursing education mentor.

The Opekete Foundation, established in 2015, aims to expand educational access for indigenous girls and young women, particularly in nursing and STEM disciplines, aligning with national development priorities.
