Major General Ibikunle Ajose Assumes Command of OPHK

Major General Ibikunle Ajose has officially taken over from Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar as the Commander of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK). Ajose assumed command as the 16th Theatre Commander during a formal ceremony held on September 15, 2026, at Headquarters Theatre Command, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State.

This change in command is part of a broader shake-up and redeployment of senior officers within the Nigerian Army. Major General Abubakar, prior to his departure, hosted a Stakeholders Engagement and Media Parley, reflecting on his tenure's achievements, which included the return of over 7,000 displaced families and the repatriation of over 3,000 Nigerians from Cameroon.

Under his command, troops neutralized over 1,106 JAS/ISWAP terrorists, recovered significant weaponry, and facilitated the return of local governance and educational activities in previously affected areas. The operational capabilities of the Theatre were also enhanced during his tenure.
