Borno Opposition Demands Probe into ₦4bn Rail Project Error

The Nigeria Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress in Borno State are calling for an external investigation into a reported ₦4 billion rail project included in the 2025 budget. The Borno State government acknowledged that the project was marked as 100% complete due to an administrative error.

A statement from the state commission for information and internal security, Usman Tar, indicated that no rail project was awarded or funded for execution during the 2025 fiscal year. The Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere Local Government Area were mentioned in relation to the alleged project.

The opposition parties expressed disbelief over the government's claims, with Aliyu Balarab stating that the situation reflects a lack of accountability and transparency. Baba Mustapha of the African Democratic Congress described the government's actions as unfortunate.

Resident Hassan Aminu called for a reevaluation of the total funds claimed to have been spent, emphasizing the need for clarity on the financial discrepancies.
