Kogi State APC Wins All Local Government Elections
The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) declared the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of all 21 chairmanship and 239 councillorship positions in the local government elections held on Saturday. KOSIEC Chairman Mamman Nda Eri announced the results during a press conference at the Commission's headquarters in Lokoja.
Only 12 political parties were cleared to contest, with major opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), disqualified for failing to meet documentation standards. Nda Eri described the elections as peaceful, free, fair, and credible, adhering to the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission Law 2025 and the Electoral Act 2022.
While APC stakeholders celebrated the results, opposition leaders criticized the process. Comrade Mohammed Kabir Abdullahi, Chairman of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties in Kogi State, claimed the elections were a mockery of democracy.
Abdulkadir Ibrahim, Organising Secretary of the PDP in Kogi State, alleged that election materials were improperly distributed.
