Farotimi Critiques Tinubu's Election Preparations
• Naijanews • Politics
Dele Farotimi, a Nigerian lawyer and activist, accused President Bola Tinubu of undermining the independence of the judiciary and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. In a post shared on Wednesday night, Farotimi expressed frustration over the opposition's preparations for the elections, contrasting it with what he described as Tinubu's preparations for a "coronation." His comments followed INEC's removal of names, including those of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, from its official portal. The African Democratic Congress (ADC), represented by its national chairman Bolaji Abdullahi, condemned INEC's actions, alleging that the electoral body is acting under pressure from the federal government to undermine the opposition. The ADC warned that INEC's position is contradictory and inconsistent, urging the public to remain steadfast as they review their options and prepare to announce their next steps.
