Tinubu's 2027 Ambitions Compared to Abacha's Era

Dele Momodu, a media mogul, has asserted that President Bola Tinubu is seeking to become the sole candidate for the 2027 general elections, reminiscent of the political climate during General Sani Abacha's rule from 1993 to 1998. Momodu's comments come in response to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognizing the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under David Mark.

He criticized INEC, describing it as a "debilitating albatross" for Nigeria, and highlighted the historical context of past electoral annulments, specifically referencing the June 12, 1993 presidential election won by Moshood Abiola. Momodu expressed concern over INEC's swift recognition of the Wike faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) while allegedly failing to address the internal conflicts within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He concluded that Tinubu's ultimate aim is to produce a sole candidate for the upcoming presidential elections, drawing a parallel to the brazen attempts made during Abacha's regime.
