Youth Assembly Urges Lawmakers for Better Representation

The Orluzurum Youth Assembly, representing youth from 12 local government areas in the Imo West Senatorial District, formally presented a 72-page report on legislative performance to local lawmakers. The assembly, led by President Izuana Obieful, expressed concerns over inadequate representation and engagement with constituents, citing a lack of public accountability and weak legislative activities.

The report, compiled by the Legislative Performance Assessment Committee, headed by Achi Nnamdi, evaluated the performance of 17 lawmakers based on interactions with the community. Lawmakers received scores ranging from 15 to 60 out of 100, indicating significant disparities in representation quality.

The assembly emphasized that the report was not intended to ridicule lawmakers but to encourage civic engagement and improve democratic accountability. The youth group aims to foster a culture of democracy and ensure that elected representatives remain connected to the aspirations of the people they serve.
