Oshiomhole: Tinubu Has Will to Fight Insecurity, Needs Better Agency Coordination

Senator Adam Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, has defended President Bola Tinubu's commitment to addressing Nigeria's ongoing insecurity, stating that the security challenges facing the country do not stem from a lack of presidential resolve. Speaking Friday at a book launch event in Abuja hosted by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Oshiomhole argued that the administration has demonstrated sufficient determination and financial backing to confront the nation's security crisis.

The former Edo State governor dismissed suggestions that the executive branch has deprioritised security matters. Instead, Oshiomhole attributed Nigeria's rising insecurity levels to resource constraints and coordination failures among security agencies.

He pointed to what he termed unhealthy rivalries between federal security forces as a significant barrier to progress, arguing that improved collaboration would strengthen the nation's security response. Oshiomhole cited the Tinubu administration's financial commitments and operational decisions as evidence of sustained political will.

He noted that the President has repeatedly approved necessary expenditures and issued directives aimed at ensuring the country's safety, contrary to claims of governmental apathy toward security threats. The senator's remarks come amid ongoing public debate over Nigeria's security trajectory.

The Civil Defence Corps event in the Federal Capital Territory, overseen by command official Olusola Odumosu, provided the platform for Oshiomhole's defence of the administration's security stance and his call for enhanced inter-agency cooperation.
