Oshiomhole: Tinubu Has Political Will to Tackle Insecurity

Adam Oshiomhole, a senator representing Edo North, asserted that President Bola Tinubu does not lack the political will to tackle insecurity in Nigeria. Speaking at a book launch in Abuja, Oshiomhole highlighted that the rising insecurity is not due to a lack of political commitment from the administration.

He noted that Tinubu has consistently allocated resources and provided leadership to enhance national security. Oshiomhole dismissed claims that the executive arm has failed to prioritize security, citing Tinubu's financial commitments and actions, including declaring a state of emergency and replacing the former security chief.

However, he raised concerns about whether instructions given at the top are effectively carried out by lower-ranking commands in the field. Oshiomhole also suggested a review of the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps, arguing that its current designation is contradictory to its tasks, which involve confronting armed criminals.

He identified unhealthy rivalries among security agencies as a major obstacle to effective national security responses.
