INEC Confirms BVAS as Sole Accreditation Method for Osun

On Thursday, during the signing of the Osun State Governorship Election Peace Accord in Osogbo, Professor Joash Amupitan, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), announced that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be the only method for voter accreditation in the upcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. Amupitan emphasized that there would be no manual accreditation, ensuring that biometric verification through BVAS is the statutory requirement.

He reported that INEC is well-prepared for the election, having completed seven out of nine activities in the election timetable. Voting will occur across 30 local government areas, including the Modakeke Area Office, with a total of 3,763 polling units.

The certified register of voters stands at 2,339,233 eligible voters. Amupitan addressed security concerns regarding stolen Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stating they cannot be used for voting without live biometric verification.

He assured that affected voters would receive replacements or digital verification options.
