Osun Governor Demands Release of N130bn Local Government Funds Amid Political Crisis

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called for the immediate release of N130 billion in statutory allocations allegedly withheld from the state's local councils. The demand comes amid a political crisis stemming from the 2022 local government elections won by the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Governor Adeleke insists that the elected PDP chairmen and councillors should be sworn in, but the former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), continues to occupy council secretariats despite court rulings nullifying the elections. The situation has led to a paralysis of grassroots governance, with Adeleke accusing Oyetola of acting unlawfully and causing hardship to workers and residents.

The APC, on the other hand, denies the allegations and maintains that its chairmen and councillors are lawfully occupying the council secretariats.
