Osun Governorship Election Rescheduled to August 15, 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the rescheduling of the Osun State governorship election to August 15, 2026, shifting it from the previously set date of August 8, 2026. This change was confirmed in a statement issued by Musa Olurod on behalf of Dr.

Mutiu Agbok, the Resident Electoral Commissioner. The adjustment was made following a directive from INEC's national headquarters in Abuja and aims to align with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.

INEC emphasized that the change does not compromise the integrity of the electoral process and reassured stakeholders of its commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, inclusive, and transparent election. The commission also noted that several pre-election activities have already been completed in accordance with the established electoral guidelines.

INEC called for cooperation from political parties, security agencies, media, and civil society organizations to ensure a peaceful and orderly election on the new date.
