Osun Government Denies Local Workers' Salary Claims

The Osun State Government, represented by Commissioner Kolapo Alimi, has refuted claims that local government workers are owed salaries, asserting that salary payments have continued without disruption across councils. The government explained that the issue lies with the withholding of ₦230 billion in statutory allocations meant for local governments, which has been withheld for nearly a year.

Despite these challenges, the state government, led by Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has managed to fund salary payments from its own resources to avoid delays and protect families from economic hardship. Alimi emphasized that the report of unpaid salaries is misleading and does not accurately reflect the financial situation of the councils.

He clarified that while salaries are paid in full and on time, the withheld allocations directly impact additional benefits that local governments could provide. The state government urged the public to disregard reports suggesting that workers are not being paid, reaffirming its commitment to worker welfare.
