Osun Labour Movement Calls for FG Intervention in LG Funds

The joint labour movement in Osun State, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), has urged the federal government, led by Bola Tinubu, to urgently intervene in a dispute concerning local government allocations in the state. During a press conference at the Labour House in Osogbo, union leaders, including Comrade Christoph Arapasopo (NLC), Comrade Bimbo Fasasi (TUC), and Comrade Lekan Adediran (JNC), alleged that local government allocations for Osun State have been paid into private accounts at commercial banks, which they described as unauthorized signatories.

They commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for stabilizing the state and meeting workers' obligations despite financial constraints. The labour movement criticized the current handling of local government funds as unsustainable and flawed, warning that they would closely monitor developments.

They also noted that a formal petition has been submitted to relevant federal authorities and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace while safeguarding workers' rights and welfare.
