Osun Government Rejects EFCC's ₦11bn Looting Claims

The Osun State Government has dismissed allegations from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding the freezing of a state bank account due to an alleged looting of ₦11 billion. The government, represented by Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Kolapo Alimi, stated that the EFCC's claims were false and intended to justify an unlawful action.

Alimi accused the EFCC of acting on the directive of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, asserting that the account restriction aimed to hinder the payment of approved palliatives for civil servants by the current administration led by Governor Ademola Adeleke. The government claims to have successfully paid these palliatives despite the restrictions.

Alimi further refuted the EFCC's allegations of financial misconduct, stating that state funds are being used for infrastructure and public welfare. The Osun State Government has initiated legal proceedings against the EFCC, seeking to declare the account restriction unlawful and compel its immediate lifting.
