Osun Government Denies EFCC's Account Freeze Justification

The Osun State Government has refuted claims that ₦11 billion was looted from its treasury, asserting that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) froze its bank accounts without any financial misconduct. In a statement by Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the government accused the EFCC of acting on the orders of former governor Gboyega Oyetola to prevent the payment of promised palliatives to workers.

The government clarified that all eligible workers had received these palliatives, which were part of efforts to alleviate economic hardship. The government criticized the EFCC for pursuing a politically motivated investigation, alleging that the agency was acting in the interest of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It stated that the EFCC had been investigating senior officials since March 2026 without finding any evidence of wrongdoing, describing the actions as harassment intended to distract from governance.
