IPC Urges Journalists for Issue-Based Coverage in Osun

The International Press Centre (IPC) has called on journalists to prioritize issue-based election coverage ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. This charge was made during a two-day media interaction program held in Osogbo, designed to strengthen collaboration among electoral stakeholders.

Stella Nwofia, an IPC official, emphasized the importance of credible reporting to enhance transparency and peace in the electoral process. Dr.

Rashe Adebiyi from the Fountain University’s Mass Communication Department urged journalists to focus on political manifestos and policies rather than personal-driven narratives. He stressed the need for media practitioners to provide balanced reports that scrutinize the promises of political parties and candidates.

Taiwo Ob, Director of the Journalism Clinic, encouraged journalists to improve their analytical skills and utilize digital tools to produce quality election reports. The IPC aims to ensure that voters are well-informed to make educated electoral choices.
