Yiaga Africa Trains Journalists Ahead of Osun Election

Ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun, Yiaga Africa conducted a training session for journalists and election stakeholders on the management, verification, and transmission of election results. The training took place on Wednesday at Adolak Event Hall in Osogbo.

Executive Director of Yiaga Africa, Samson Itodo, emphasized the necessity of this training due to the competitive nature of the election and the tense political environment, which has seen over 34 deaths linked to election-related violence, according to data from the Kukah Centre’s Election Security Information Hub. The training covered polling-unit results management, electronic transmission, and the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.

Itodo warned that misinformation and misunderstanding of the electoral process could lead to disputes and violence. He stressed the importance of journalists understanding the constitutional requirements for winning a governorship election, including securing the highest number of votes and the required geographical spread.

The training was organized in collaboration with CEMESO and IPC.
