Man Dies in Osun Fight Over N8,000 Egungun Proceeds

On Friday during the Egungun festival in Ilar, Osun State, a man identified as Bukunmi died after a violent altercation over the distribution of N8,000 earned from the masquerade process. The incident occurred around 7:30 PM when Bukunmi and a family member, Femi Pelumi, disagreed over the money.

Femi intervened in the dispute, but Bukunmi allegedly attacked him, leading to a physical confrontation. During the altercation, Bukunmi was reportedly stabbed with a knife.

Eyewitnesses rushed Bukunmi to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps responded to the scene, and the police were notified.

Abiodun Ojelabi, spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, confirmed that the suspect had been taken into custody, and an autopsy would be conducted to investigate the circumstances surrounding Bukunmi's death.
