INEC Increases BVAS Units for Osun State Election

Prof. Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), reassured Osun State residents regarding technical glitches experienced with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) during a mock accreditation exercise. He described the issues as “minor” and confirmed that they have been resolved by the commission’s IT department.

To enhance the voting process, INEC has increased the number of BVAS units from 4,427 to 5,130, particularly in high-density areas such as Ife East, Irewole, Egbedore, Ede North, and Osogbo. Additionally, backup machines have been doubled from 664 to 1,328.

Amupitan emphasized INEC's neutrality and commitment to ensuring that every valid vote counts in the August 15, 2026 governorship election. He also discussed security arrangements, stating that specialized, non-partisan security plans are in place to protect the electoral process, with targeted interventions in identified vulnerable areas.
