INEC Warns Against Disruptions Ahead of Osun Election

On Thursday, July 31, 2023, Prof. Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), issued a warning against any disruptions or vote buying during the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15.

This announcement was made during the signing of the National Peace Committee’s Peace Accord in Osogbo, attended by 14 political parties, security agencies, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders. Amupitan stated that INEC had completed 11 of the 13 activities on its election timetable, with only the end of campaigns on August 13 and election day remaining.

He emphasized that the commission would not allow the democratic will of the people to be undermined by fear or violence. INEC plans to deploy personnel across all 30 Local Government Areas, covering 332 Registration Areas and 3,763 Polling Units.

The commission has identified several high-risk areas for additional security measures and is collaborating with various security agencies to ensure a secure voting environment.
