INEC Chairman Urges Peace Ahead of Osun Election

Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stated that the upcoming Osun governorship election scheduled for August 15 should not cost any lives.

During a visit to the Ataoja of Osogbo, HRM Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji, Amupitan emphasized the importance of security and the Commission's commitment to preventing violence. He disclosed that INEC is working with the police, the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, and Service Chiefs to ensure special security measures are in place.

Amupitan also addressed the issue of misleading videos aimed at discouraging voter participation, urging citizens to disregard such misinformation. He mentioned a peace accord signed with all political parties to ensure that the election outcome reflects the will of the people rather than violence.

Additionally, a mock accreditation exercise is scheduled for Friday in selected local governments to test INEC's equipment ahead of the election.
