INEC Urges Peace Accord Compliance Ahead of Osun Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on political parties and candidates participating in the Osun State governorship election on August 15 to honor the peace accord they signed. Adedayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, made this appeal on July 30 during an interview on ADBN TV.

The peace accord, organized by the National Peace Committee (NPC) and signed by 14 political parties, aims to ensure a non-violent election. Oketola stressed that the accord represents a public commitment by political actors to maintain peace and abide by the law.

He acknowledged rising tensions in Osun State but expressed confidence in the security arrangements for the election, including the deployment of 15,000 police personnel. INEC has completed the deployment of non-sensitive materials and will begin moving sensitive materials from the Central Bank of Nigeria to local government offices on Friday, ensuring readiness for election day.
