Osun Protesters Demand Action on Abducted Oyo Pupils

On June 12, 2023, human rights organizations, civil society groups, and trade unionists in Osogbo staged a peaceful protest demanding the immediate rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oyo State. The protest, organized by the Osun Coalition of Civil Society and supported by the Democratic Socialist Movement and the Federated Inform Worker Organisation Nigeria, called for urgent government action to address the worsening insecurity across Nigeria.

Protesters marched from the Ayetoro area to the Old Garage and Olaiya Junction, carrying banners with messages urging the government to end kidnappings. Victor Lijofi, the Osun State coordinator for the movement, warned that Nigeria's democracy is at risk if the federal government does not act swiftly to improve security.

Wole Oladapo and Saka Wahe Lawal also emphasized the negative impact of insecurity on the economy and called for decisive actions to tackle banditry and violent crime, stressing that citizens deserve to know how security resources are utilized.
