Osun Teachers Protest for Rescue of Abducted Oyo Pupils

On May 15, 2026, teachers in Osun State held a protest to demand the rescue of pupils abducted from schools in Oriir Local Government Area, Oyo State. The protest was led by Babatunde Babalola, the Chairman of the Osun chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).

Teachers marched from Ataoja School of Science in Osogbo to the Osun Government Secretariat, carrying placards with messages urging the government to take action against the rising insecurity in schools. The protest was a response to a recent attack by armed men on three schools in the area, which resulted in the abduction of pupils and teachers.

Babalola received the protest on behalf of the state government, where the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Muritala Jimoh, addressed the crowd. Jimoh assured that the government would make every effort to protect schools and urged teachers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
