Osun State Drags FG to Supreme Court Over Seized LG Funds

Osun State Government has taken the Federal Government to the Supreme Court over the alleged unlawful seizure of statutory allocations meant for 30 local government councils since March 2025. The state filed a suit challenging the Attorney General of the Federation's directive to withhold the funds, citing a crisis in the state's local government.

Osun argued that the Federal High Court and Court of Appeal had ruled in favor of the newly elected council, nullifying the previous administration's actions. The state is seeking an order compelling the release of the withheld funds and a declaration that the AGF acted unconstitutionally.

Osun also filed a separate suit in the Federal High Court in Osogbo over the transfer of the disputed allocation case to Abuja, arguing that it violated court rules. The Supreme Court is yet to set a hearing date for the matter.
