Abia Governor Otti Announces Gradual Payment of 23-Year Pension Backlog

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has revealed plans to address the state's long-standing pension and gratuity arrears dating back to 2001, amounting to over N60 billion. A joint committee, including representatives from the Nigerian Union of Pension, has conducted a comprehensive audit to verify claims.

Otti assured retirees that the backlog would be cleared gradually, emphasizing transparency in the process. Additionally, the state is set to recruit 4,000 teachers to address educational needs, with an emphasis on qualifications and transparency.

The governor also highlighted efforts to improve infrastructure, including the acquisition of electric buses to reduce transportation costs.
