Alex Otti Advocates Against Petrol Subsidy Return in Nigeria

Abia State Governor Alex Otti defended the removal of petrol subsidies during an interview on ARISE News Channel, arguing that such subsidies encourage inefficiency and corruption rather than production. He stated that government resources should focus on supporting production and creating efficient business systems.

Otti has consistently supported the removal of the subsidy, citing a previous article he wrote in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic advocating for its removal. He warned that those seeking to restore the subsidy do not have Nigeria's best interests at heart.

Otti also mentioned that businesses do not need subsidies if the government can ensure a reliable power supply. Additionally, he clarified his support for President Bola Tinubu, acknowledging Tinubu's right to seek re-election while stating he is not in a position to oppose him, as doing so would be counterproductive within the government.
