Alex Otti aims to transform Abia into a food exporter

Abia State Governor Alex Otti announced plans to harness the state's agricultural potential to drive industrialization, achieve food self-sufficiency, and position Abia as a net exporter of agricultural produce. He urged Presco Plc to invest in the government-owned Ulonna Farm Settlement in Umuahia.
Otti revealed the formation of a steering committee, which he will lead, comprising representatives from the state government, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, PAYAZA Africa Limited, and other stakeholders. This committee will identify agricultural commodities where Abia has a comparative advantage and recommend necessary investments, infrastructure, and technological innovations.
Otti emphasized the importance of integrating modern technology with the agricultural vision of the late Dr. Michael Iheonukara Okpara. He also welcomed a proposal for an Agricultural Technology Hub at MOUAU.
During the event, Fidelis Edeh and Prof Ursula Ngozi Akanwa spoke on the significance of strategic investments in agriculture for economic growth.
