Otti Launches N1.3bn Water Projects in Abia State

On Sunday, Abia State Governor Alex Otti officially launched two water projects, the N1.3 billion Ubakala Water Scheme and the Ariaria Water Scheme, located in the Umuahia South Local Government Area. Otti expressed gratitude to Mercy Corps for their assistance in extending the water supply across the state.

He emphasized the critical nature of these projects, stating that access to safe water is essential for public health. The governor noted that the Aba region's water project is currently 95% complete.

The initiative aligns with the Abia Integrated WASH Accelerated Program and is part of Otti's broader agenda to prioritize infrastructure renewal, including power, roads, and water supply since assuming office in 2023. The funding for these projects was facilitated by USAID and Mercy Corps, with the latter's country director, Rabiu Sani, highlighting the organization's humanitarian efforts across Nigeria.

The projects aim to rehabilitate existing boreholes and improve public utility access to potable water.
