Otu Commits to Mangrove Conservation and Climate Resilience

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State reaffirmed his administration's commitment to sustainable natural resource management, climate resilience, and biodiversity conservation. This statement followed the successful completion of a UK pact project with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) focused on the integrated management of mangrove ecosystems.

During a workshop on Tuesday, Otu highlighted the project's outcomes, which included enhanced ecosystem resilience and improved livelihoods for coastal communities dependent on fisheries and forests. Deputy Governor Peter Odei commended the FAO for its partnership and noted the project's success in building capacity for sustainable resource management and supporting vulnerable households, particularly women and youth.

Otu emphasized the need to sustain the project's gains and foster stronger partnerships to replicate its success, advocating for investments in nature-based solutions to safeguard the state's mangrove ecosystem.
