Nigerian Medical Student Killed in Russian Strike in Ukraine

Marian Nnani, a 23-year-old Nigerian medical student at Kharkiv National Medical University, succumbed to injuries from a Russian strike that occurred on June 29 in the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv. The attack, which involved aerial bombardment, resulted in the immediate death of her close friend, Fatima Huseynova.

Following the incident, Marian was transferred to a hospital in Germany for specialized treatment after receiving initial care in Kharkiv. The university announced her death on a Sunday, describing her as a dedicated and compassionate student who began her medical studies in 2020 and participated in various academic programs, including an internship at the University of Cambridge.

Her death has generated significant reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing grief and questioning why she remained in Ukraine despite the ongoing war. The Kharkiv National Medical University extended condolences to her family and friends, emphasizing that her memory will remain an integral part of the university community.
