Nigerian Medical Graduate Killed in Ukraine Airstrike

Marian Nnani Adaobi, a Nigerian medical graduate, was killed in a Russian airstrike in the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv, Ukraine, on June 29. The attack was part of a broader wave of bombings that resulted in at least 14 deaths and 98 injuries across the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv regions.

Marian was reportedly taking photos with her friend, Fatima Huseynova, when the bomb exploded. Despite efforts by medical teams at Kharkiv National Medical University and later in Germany, Marian succumbed to her injuries.

She had enrolled in medical studies in 2020 and was recognized for her academic excellence and commitment to helping others. Marian had completed an internship at the University of Cambridge and was set to graduate in 2024 from Biruni University.

Her death has deeply affected the academic community, which mourns the loss of a dedicated and compassionate student.
