Delta State Property Owners Seek Governor's Aid After Demolitions
More than 400 individuals from Parkview Estates in Anwai, near Asaba, Delta State, are in distress after their buildings were demolished on May 14, 2024, by the Delta State Taskforce on Recovery of Government Lands. The demolition occurred despite ongoing legal proceedings and a court injunction against further action on the disputed land.
Affected property owners, including Mr Christian Nwaolisa and Chief Charles Ogbobe, have reported emotional and financial hardship, with over 10 deaths attributed to the stress of the situation. The land dispute involves competing claims between Parkview Estates and Dennis Osadebay University.
Ogbobe stated that the land was legitimately acquired from the Isieke community, with documentation supporting their ownership. The High Court has instructed both parties to provide survey plans to clarify property boundaries.
The Vice-Chairman of Parkview Estates, Mr Samuel Onuwa David, claimed the demolition occurred before the expiration of a seven-day notice, and he lost multiple properties in the process. The property owners are appealing to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for intervention and compensation.
