Human Rights Coalition Demands Action After Delta Clash

The Human Rights Advocacy Coalition, in collaboration with the Delta State Civil Society Organisational Forum and Value Rebirth and Empowerment Initiative, condemned a political clash that occurred on Friday in Warri and Effurun, Delta State. They demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible, characterizing the incident as a result of "primitive and aggressive tribalism." The coalition's spokesman, Pastor Edewor Egedegbe, stated that the clash represented an "existential assault on human dignity" and a betrayal of the social contract.

They urged security agencies to enforce the Criminal Code Act against the perpetrators. The coalition acknowledged the Delta State Government's directive for an investigation but insisted on immediate action.

They noted that the violence disrupted activities along the Effurun-Warri corridor, affecting local residents, including market women and daily-wage workers. The coalition condemned political violence and called for political leaders to denounce such acts, urging community leaders to help prevent further violence.
