Ekiti Governor Oyebanji Boosts Tourism with Community Rights

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to developing the state's tourism sector, specifically regarding the Ugel Rock Cave in Iker Ekiti. During an official event, he assured host communities that their custodial rights over tourism assets will be protected.

This initiative aims to alleviate concerns among local communities about potential loss of ownership and emphasizes a partnership approach to transform tourism sites into viable economic hubs capable of generating revenue and creating jobs. Oyebanji highlighted the importance of community involvement, particularly urging youth to support visitors to enhance the site's appeal as a tourist destination.

The Director General of the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development, Wale Ojo-Lanr, noted that a comprehensive tourism policy and master plan are ready for implementation, with significant investments planned for the sector. Rufu Olorunfemi, Chairman of Iker West LCDA, expressed confidence that proper development of the site will boost cultural preservation and increase international revenue.
